Building a Healthier Community

Supportive Housing and Innovative Partnerships, Inc (SHIP) is dedicated to improving our community and our environment. In addition to diverting building re-usable materials from the landfill at Second Chance Building Materials Center we work with other local organizations and non-profits to make our community a safer and better place to live.

Recent Partnerships

Life's Kitchen

SHIP participated in Life's Kitchen's recent 2011 Sparkling Wine Spectacular fundraiser by donating a cedar hope chest made from reclaimed lumber for their silent auction.

Mission: Life's Kitchen is dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk young adults by building self sufficiency and independence through comprehensive food service and life skills training, and placement in the food service industry.

Idaho Green Works

SHIP is a proud member of Green Works Idaho, we have donated potting tables for the raffles at the 2010 and 2011 Idaho Green Expo.

Mission: GreenWorks Idaho cultivates the growth of the emerging green economy through business promotion, community education and advocacy.

Think Boise First

Think Boise First (TBF) was founded in 2008 by a small group of business owners and community advocates who believe local businesses are the core of a thriving local economy. A local living economy ensures that economic power resides locally, sustaining healthy community life and natural life as well as long-term economic viability.

TBF creates awareness and educates community members on the importance of supporting locally owned and independently operated businesses. When you procure goods and services from a local business, a greater portion of your dollar stays in your community and when local businesses purchase from one another an additional circulation of your dollar occurs. More money circulating in our community means more stable jobs, a stronger economic base, preserving our uniqueness of place and enhancing our quality of life.

Community Gardens

SHIP supports local community gardens, over the past two years we have donated a door and a full sprinkler system.

Why? In all walks of life, green space draws people outside and fosters social contact.
Facilitating open green spaces where people can congregate promotes opportunities for positive social interaction and supportive friendly environments. Studies have found that residents living near green common spaces “had more social activities and more visitors, knew more about their neighbors, reported their neighbors were more concerned with helping and supporting one another and had stronger feelings of belonging” (Environmental News Network). Green spaces also promote safer neighborhoods. When residents have more vested interests in a place, their participation in community vigilance increases, and they will watch to make sure it’s not being misused, damaged, etc. The better maintained a residence or public space is, the safer it is going to be. Natural areas promote livability and vitality of communities. Recreational opportunities, good air and water quality and scenic beauty will attract new residents, families and tourism.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness)

SHIP donated a planter bench to NAMI Walks Post-Walk Celebration Dinner and Silent Auction in December of 2011.

Mission: Working as Boise's leading voice on mental illness and as a partner with other concerned individuals and community groups, NAMI-Boise promotes wellness and provides emotional support, education, referrals and advocacy for people with mental illness and their families.

Community Information and Resource Fair

SHIP, in partnership with the Idaho Department of Labor, Idaho Department of correction, Ada County Sheriff and the Vineyard Christian Fellowship organized the first annual Community Information and Resource Fair. The purpose of the Fair is bring together community based and faith based organizations serving offenders in our community.
