SHIP has found that once safe and sober housing is established, the next step is securing employment. Through innovative and inclusive partnerships SHIP helps those in recovery to develop skills, find jobs and rebuild lives.
"The price of law and order keeps going up. It makes the price of prevention look better every day. The news that the state may need to spend more than $1 billion -- that's $1,000,000,000 -- on new prisons only underscores the value of keeping people out of prison in the first place. "

Second Chance Building Materials Center In May of 2005, SHIP opened the Second Chance Building Materials Center in Boise’s Linen District to create jobs for persons in recovery and to further the mission os SHIP. The Center employs many of the current and/or former residents of SHIP housing.
Center employees also do deconstruction services for building contracting and remodeling projects and re-manufacture recycled materials into new products, including custom sheds and playhouses.
We can provide assistance in the process of identifying and sorting materials salvaged through deconstruction projects and construction site recycling. SHIP also has experience in providing LEED documentation for Materials and Resource credits.
The Second Chance Building Materials Center (SMBMC) is the area’s first home improvement store that sells recycled and donated building materials.
SCBMC is a reuse operation that sells donated and salvaged building materials to the public at very affordable prices. The store is located at 1423 W. Grove St. with an annex at 1417 W. Grove. Donations are accepted at the overhead door on 14th Street between W. Grove and Front st.

Deconstruction is the systematic disassembly of a building, with the purpose of recovering valuable materials for reuse in construction, renovation or manufacturing into new wood products. The salvaged materials are either sold at Second Chance Building Materials Center or made into products such as Adirondack chairs and other custom wood products.
